World’s Youngest Chartered Marketer
Receiving an award from MURI (Museum Rekor Indonesia) as the youngest chartered marketer was one of the proudest moment of my life. The award was hand presented to me by Jaya Suprana, the founder of MURI which made me feel even more honoured. There are actually two awards here that I received which were awards from:
1. The Chartered Institute of Marketing - CIM marketing UK which is the world’s largest marketing body. CIM awards Chartered Marketer status to marketing professionals who are quallified that have met CIM strict guidelines. It is the highest marketing status ever awarded to any marketing professionals around the world. I was awarded the chartered marketer status in July 2001 when I was 24 years old and it has been confirmed by CIM that I am still the youngest person ever awarded chartered marketer status in the world.
2. MURI - Museum Rekor Indonesia is an organisation in Indonesia that documents and award all great records achieved by Indonesians.
MURI recognised this achievement as a record not only for Indonesia but for the world as the World’s Youngest Chartered Marketer.
This is my contribution to my countrymen in Indonesia. The award is dedicated to all young marketers to achieve greatness in their profession and that one should not feel inferior to great things, the old saying proves right - “If there is a will, there’s a way” Never stop trying to achieve.
I still remember my first step to this status was to take the CIM Post-graduate Diploma (DipM) examinations in UK which was right after my bachelor degree - BA(Hons) Retail Management examinations. While I was preparing to take the exams, many students were already enjoying the great summer sun on the beach. But I had to prepare for my CIM Marketing examinations for another two weeks! Many students didnt even bother to take the CIM exams as it was known that only 50% of students passed internationally!
As the only Asian in the university with language handicap compared to the locals English, I was not expected to pass one of the most difficult exams. Even my lecturers were surpised of the results! Not only that, I even achieved top results for the course!
So was I wasting my summer holidays? Well, it now proved fruitfull didnt it? So be inspired, as Nike put it so rightly “just do it”!
